CA Lawmakers reintroduce Housing For All Act to tackle homelessness, affordable housing

A homeless man sits against a brightly covered wall across the street from San Diego City College Photo by Chris Stone Times of San Diego California lawmakers Monday reported the reintroduction of the Housing for All Act to address homelessness and the affordable housing crises in the state and across the nation The decree backed by Democratic Sen Alex Padilla and Reps Ted Lieu D-Los Angeles County and Salud Carbajal D-Santa Barbara would invest in proven housing strategies and provide historic federal funding to prevent homelessness executives commented For far too long the lack of affordable housing has hurt Americans nationwide and disproportionately harmed low-income and communities of color Padilla declared The Trump Administration has expressed plans to defund housing services across the country and make cuts at the Department of Housing and Urban Improvement with prospective closings of nearly two-thirds of HUD field offices nationwide There is not enough affordable housing in California and across this country Lieu noted Everyday Americans can work more than one job and it s still not enough to afford safe and stable housing It s time we definitively invest in the proven community-driven solutions that combat homelessness and create more affordable housing The Housing for All Act would Invest trust funds like the National Housing Trust Fund the HOME Outlay Partnerships project and more Invest in the Housing Choice Vouchers and grant programs that help with street outreach rapid re-housing assistance crisis shelter and homelessness prevention Advocacy approaches like investing in hotel and motel conversions to permanent supportive housing with supportive serves the Eviction Protection Grant Campaign to help experienced legal function providers in providing legal assistance to low-income tenants at exposure of or subject to eviction and more Full text of the bill is available here
